The Social Work Department provides discharge planning and counseling for patients coping with the impact of parenthood as well as pre-term labor and premature babies.

The social worker can assist with referrals to community resources such as parenting classes, baby nurse agencies, resources for parents of multiples, and WIC.

Family Bereavement

This program is designed to assist patients, families and staff through the end of life process and to provide them with follow-up bereavement services or refer them to the appropriate community resources. The program provides memory boxes and family resource packets to families and training to staff. Soon the program will be expanded to the community.

This program also provides the following services:

  • Parent support groups on for miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal and pediatric death
  • Groups for fathers, surviving siblings and "Straight Talk to Children"
  • Resource packets for children as well as parents
  • Yearly Memorial Service
