The NYU Obstetrical and Gynecological Ultrasound Unit is a world class diagnostic referral center located in the Faculty Practice Tower on First Avenue between 33rd and 30th Streets.
The director, Ilan Timor, MD is internationally recognized as one of the foremost experts in obstetrical ultrasound. Ana Monteagudo, MD, the Associate Director is also internationally recognized for her work in obstetrical ultrasound and is one of the world's foremost experts on ultrasonography of the fetal brain.
The purpose of this diagnostic center is to identify potential obstetrical, medical or fetal problems at an early enough point in the pregnancy to maximize the likelihood of a healthy child.
The ultrasound unit is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and is supported by it's expert staff who are leaders in the field, both nationally and internationally.

Prenatal Diagnostic Services
Prenatal Diagnostic Services at the Ob/Gyn Ultrasound Unit at NYU Langone Medical Center include:
- Prenatal ultrasound
- Sonographic guided procedures
- Antenatal testing
- Gynecologic/pelvic scanning
We use all modalities of ultrasound (transvaginal, transabdominal, transperineal, and three-dimensional) to evaluate the developing fetus or the female pelvis.
In addition, we perform sonographic guided procedures such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, cordocentesis, and other fetal invasive tests for DNA diagnosis, chromosome analysis, and treatment of the fetus.
We also offer cyst aspiration, saline infusion and sonohysterography. Lastly, we provide a full range of antenatal testing services such as non-stress test (NST), biophysical profile (BPP), amniotic fluid evaluation and contraction monitoring.
