NYU Langone Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a service for newborn babies who are born premature or who need special medical and/or surgical care at birth.

The NICU team provides optimal care in a supportive family-centered environment.

The unit has serene, family-friendly atmosphere in accordance with the goals of the Developmental Care Program, which addresses the developmental needs of the newborn by providing a womb-like atmosphere and advocating close and continual contact with parents.

Recent NYU School of Medicine studies demonstrate clear medical benefits to this approach. Our NICU was ranked among the best in the country for the provision of premature care.
